Background

This is an exciting time to join the Department of Nursing and Midwifery. Our team driving our undergraduate Future Nurse and postgraduate portfolio is expanding to support our increased student numbers. We are seeking to recruit an NMC Registrant with experience in mental health nursing. The successful candidate will work closely with the Programme Director – Pre-Registration Education and our Director of Postgraduate Programmes to enrich and extend the learning and teaching of our learners in relation to the care of adults.

Role Summary

You will contribute to a range of education-related activities including clinical skills, digital and practice learning across our portfolio of Pre-Registration Nursing Programmes (BNurs, MNurs, and MSc (graduate-entry). You will work closely with our Programme Director and other academic teaching staff to support the smooth delivery of our Future Nurse programmes. In addition you will be expected to demonstrate academic citizenship, developing and maintaining mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students; ensuring the way you carry out your role impacts positively on how others carry out theirs. 

Your teaching is likely to include a substantial contribution to: (a) the management, development and delivery of teaching and assessment at all levels; and (b) enhancement of the student experience and employability. 

You will be expected to advance teaching and learning practice in your modules within the school, take a role in leading aspects of curriculum development, and play an important role in student academic and pastoral support. You will deliver excellent teaching that inspires students, and is informed by discipline-based research. 

Management and administration responsibilities may include developing and making contributions to placement partnerships, knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement, widening participation, outreach, or similar activities at Department/School level or further within the University and with health and social care partners.

This post is offered on an education basis. Candidates will be expected to hold a Master's degree qualification, and to contribute to postgraduate research supervision (PGR) where appropriate, and pursue funding and publication opportunities aligned to your research interests and themes in the School. 

Person Specification

  • Hold a higher degree relevant to the discipline of nursing. 
  • Current NMC registration as a registered nurse (mental health). Dual registration in an alternate field or specialist practitioner is desirable.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of contemporary nursing practice. 
  • Extensive teaching experience and scholarship within subject specialism of nursing. 
  • Hold PGC in Higher Education, or equivalent (FHEA) or willingness to complete.
  • Proven ability to devise, advise on and manage learning.
  • Skills in managing, motivating and mentoring others.
