About Us
The Sainsbury Wellcome Centre (SWC) brings together world-leading scientists to explore how brain circuits process information to generate perception, form memories, and guide behaviour. Established through the partnership of the Gatsby Charitable Foundation and Wellcome, SWC is dedicated to developing experimentally testable theories of brain function. Our specialist professional services team provides efficient research support and operational leadership.
About the Role
This is a readvertisement; previous applicants need not reapply. SWC’s research labs drive groundbreaking neuroscience discoveries. As Deputy Laboratory Operations Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining safe, organised, and well-equipped labs. Working closely with the Centre Laboratory Manager, you will support twelve Group Leaders and their teams, ensuring the Advanced Microscopy Facility and Viral Vector Core remain fully functional. Responsibilities include ensuring health and safety compliance, delivering training on safe lab practices, and advancing sustainability initiatives. You will collaborate with the Laboratory Management Team, providing operational support, particularly during absences or peak periods. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a world-leading research environment.
About You
We seek a proactive and organised individual with experience in laboratory health and safety, equipment management, and training delivery. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential, as you will interact with scientists, technicians, and support staff. The ideal candidate will have experience in research or lab management, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to take initiative in problem-solving. A readiness to provide support during high-demand periods is key. If you are passionate about fostering an environment where scientific discovery thrives, we encourage you to apply. This post is funded until 31 October 2025, with extensions dependent on grant renewal. Interviews will be held on Thursday 27th or Friday 28th February.
