About us

The number theory group at King’s currently consists of David Burns, Lassina Dembele, Fred Diamond, Netan Dogra, Andrea Dotto, Natalie Evans, Peter Jossen, Payman Kassaei, Asuka Kumon, Steve Lester, Rachel Newton, Owen Patashnick, Beth Romano, & Igor Wigman, as well as several post-doctoral researchers and PhD students. 

We work closely with other leading universities across London, creating a hub of mathematical excellence in Number Theory. We co-organize the London Number Theory Seminar, and participate in joint study groups, providing a platform for collaborative learning with our academic partners across London.

About the role

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate to work with Payman Kassaei & Fred Diamond on the EPSRC funded project “Langlands reciprocity and the geometry of Shimura varieties: the mod p interface”. This is a two-year position which includes a travel budget.

The expected start date is 1st of September 2025, but is negotiable. 

The PDRA will be expected to work on aspects of the proposed research, including (but not limited to) mod p geometry of Shimura varieties and their stratifications, p-adic Hodge theory, mod p & p-adic automorphic forms.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills & experience:

Essential criteria

  • A PhD (or equivalent) in mathematics.
  • Excellence in research & publications, commensurate with career stage
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Specialist knowledge in an area related to the research programme

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working as part of a group
  • Experience organizing seminars/study groups

* Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
