We are presenting three opportunities to join the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer. For more information about the Wolfson School, please visit https://www.lboro.ac.uk/schools/meme/ 

We are seeking applicants with experience in or across the following areas: 

Energy Engineering

We are seeking candidates to join the Wolfson School’s Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology (CREST) to augment research and teaching activities at undergraduate and postgraduate level in renewable energy. Areas of particular interest include but are not limited to: wind power (onshore and offshore), water power (inland and marine), energy storage (thermal and synthetic fuels), and solar photovoltaics (systems and applications). Other expertise that complements existing activities shall also be considered. Applicants should have a good understanding of clean energy industry requirements, in terms of people and skills shortages, and technology research gaps. An active research programme with elements influencing teaching and a clear benefit to enhancing our graduates’ employability should be demonstrable. CREST has successfully integrated research and training for more than 30 years, has extensive physical and data research infrastructure shared across the Centre and University, a high degree of workplace satisfaction, and a strong interest in community.

Mechatronics & Control

We are seeking candidates with a strong background in practical Control Systems Engineering and/or Mechatronics. Your research or industrial experience therefore could have a focus on areas such as (but not limited to): control theory; robust or adaptive control; predictive control; control applications; condition monitoring; dynamic modelling for control; system identification; machine learning-based control; reinforcement learning; mechatronic systems; or control of safety critical systems. Research experience in the development and application of control and mechatronic systems to industrial applications would be particularly attractive.

Systems Engineering

Candidates will have a focus on model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and knowledge of and experience in applying Systems Engineering methodology and processes, be able to lead a research programme, and deliver research informed teaching at the postgraduate level in the area of MBSE. Candidates will have an established track record within Systems Engineering. Experience of quantum technologies or nuclear and/or fusion energy would also be valued but not essential.   

Loughborough University has delivered research, master’s and doctoral level education in Systems Engineering for more than 30 years that evolves with the changing needs of industry. The programme has a strong emphasis on MBSE, with a successful level 7 apprenticeship and doctoral centre that attracts high quality students and is supported by more than 40 industry and government organisations. The successful candidate will demonstrate their ability to grow into a balanced programme of postgraduate level of teaching, direction of research students, engagement with industry, and establishing or growing a strong research track record.  

Engineering academics at Loughborough University have a long-standing tradition of industrial experience and engagement. Candidates will have a profile in line with this tradition and those from outside of academia who have promise to become a top academic are encouraged to apply.
