About us

A full-time Laboratory technical position has become available at the Neonatology department at the Institute of Women’s Health. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside a world class research group in neonatal encephalopathy and gain skills and techniques in neuroscience. The Institute for Women’s Health is an exciting and dynamic multidisciplinary teaching and research environment focusing on enhancing the health and quality of life of women and babies around the world.

About the role

This full-time lab technician position is funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and is available immediately. The post holder will provide full technical, administrative and data collection support to a multidisciplinary team engaged in world leading translational pre-clinical research that aims to protect the brain in newborn babies deprived of oxygen. Specifically, the project involves the pre-clinical development of novel neuro-protective strategies in a model of neonatal encephalopathy. Salary range is UCL Grade 6 This role is an open-ended contract with a funding end date of 31.12.2025 in the first instance. This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role. This role is not eligible for hybrid working as it needs to be 100% on site and on a night shift rota. About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a keen eye for detail and a methodical approach to support a busy neur oprotective lab based at the Institute of Neurology. Excellent interpersonal skills and flexible attitude to shift work and unsocial hours (i.e. 8pm to 8am) are essential as well as the ability to work unsupervised on occasion. Previous experience in pre-clinical in-vivo techniques or possession of Home Office personal licence would be advantageous but are not essential as training will be given where required. For the right candidate there will be an opportunity to gain new skills in pre clinical models of diseases, in-vivo surgery/anaesthesia and biochemical assays. Applicants should hold a BSc in a relevant biological discipline or higher.
