The College Nurse provides a range of first-contact clinical and non-clinical care to students at Jesus College. The core responsibilities centre on running a daily surgery where the Nurse will be expected to discuss problems with students, respond to medical emergencies while on duty, assess and deal with minor ailments and injuries, advise on doctors’ appointments, and keep records. Visits to students in their accommodation or to hospital may, on occasion, be necessary.
To undertake this challenging and rewarding role, you will need to be an appropriately registered clinical practitioner who is able to communicate, liaise, and interact effectively with colleagues and multi-professional teams. This includes the College’s GP Practice as well as the College’s Welfare Team which comprises the Academic Director (who is the College’s Welfare Lead), Welfare Officer, Academic Registrar, and Chaplain.
An understanding of and sympathy for the stresses of university student life together with a knowledge of the various help and support options will allow the Nurse to react to student problems and crises and play a full part in the work of the College’s Welfare Team. Experience in dealing with mental health issues and the ability to refer patients for counselling would be especially welcome.
Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise your workload are essential for this role to succeed. You must have the skills and knowledge to use Microsoft Office and clinical IT systems, plus good written and oral communication skills.
The position is open to applicants who might like to combine it with other, similar employment.
