About the role

The Faculty of Science and Engineering wish to appoint a Senior Technician to provide teaching and research support for the School of Engineering Computing and Mathematics.

You will work as part of a team under the direction of the School Technical Manager and deliver support in all aspects of Computing. You will need to demonstrate the relevant skills, a suitable amount of work experience and a commitment to the technical delivery/technical education within the technical team. This role will support a broad range of activities including undergraduate projects, teaching, research and outreach activities.

You will be expected to have an HND or Degree in a relevant subject area, or substantial appropriate experience in the subject. Must have practical knowledge and experience in a computing support role, ideally within an academic or large organizational setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, and manage large-scale software deployments across campus environments.
  • Administer and maintain on-premises and virtualised servers, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
  • Manage user accounts and permissions across Active Directory and other identity management systems.
  • Configure, monitor, and maintain network infrastructure, including switches and routers.
  • Oversee firewall configurations and ensure compliance with security policies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software, and networking issues.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to assess IT requirements and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and incidents for knowledge sharing and compliance.
  • Line management of junior team members and assist in their professional development.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends to recommend improvements to existing systems.
