About the role
The Faculty of Science and Engineering wish to appoint a Senior Technician to provide teaching and research support for the School of Engineering Computing and Mathematics.
You will work as part of a team under the direction of the School Technical Manager and deliver support in all aspects of Civil Engineering (Materials & Structures), manage a laboratory and workshop areas. You will be able to demonstrate a suitable period of experience in Civil Engineering and a commitment to the technical delivery/technical education within the technical team.
You will be expected to have an HND or Degree in a relevant subject area or equivalent or appropriate experience in the subject. Must have practical knowledge and experience in mechanical and civil testing methods, the use of machine and hand tools, and the ability to assist in surveying practical’s. The following skills and experience are desirable: geotechnics testing, materials, hydraulics and structural testing. Experience, and ability to assist students, with computer aided design (AutoCAD and SolidWorks) is highly desirable. Good verbal and written skills are essential.
You must be able to work within a team covering many subject areas and to be proactive in covering all aspect of activities in a professional manner.
You will be required to support a broad range of activities which includes undergraduate projects, teaching, research and outreach activities.
A key element of the role will be the day-to-day operation of the Structures & Geotechnics Workshop laboratory, and as such, experience of working in a H&S focused manner is essential.
