The Fennell Career Development Fellow in the History of the Americas

Fixed term: Three years from 1^st August 2025

Full time: 35 hours per week

The Opportunity:

There is an opportunity to join the History department of the School of History, Classics and Archaeology as a Career Development Fellow in the History of the Americas for a fixed period of three years. The role is supported by a generous donation from Simon Fennell, a graduate of the department.

HCA Career Development Fellowships aim to provide career development opportunities for those who are at a relatively early stage of their academic careers. Candidates should not yet have held an open-ended academic contract at a university. This is primarily a research post but with opportunities for developing skills in course design and organisation and large-group lecturing.

The appointed candidate will demonstrate excellent potential for research, as evidenced by publications accepted or forthcoming.

Your skills and attributes for success:

• A submitted PhD in any aspect of the History of the Americas
• Internationally world-leading/ excellent publication(s), either published or accepted and imminently forthcoming, on any aspect of the History of the Americas
• Evidence of commitment to, and potential for, excellent undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
• Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
• Commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace
