Applications are invited for the role of Research Fellow to support the Leverhulme Trust Research Project “Navigating the ethical complexities of using generative AI for academic writing”, led by Professor Ema Ushioda from Applied Linguistics, School of Education, Learning and Communication Sciences (SELCS) at the University of Warwick.
The project will explore ethical issues in using generative AI technologies (e.g., ChatGPT) to support academic writing and publication tasks and help inform development of inclusive ethical approaches.
The project will run for 24 months from 31 March 2025 and will comprise a main qualitative interview phase (Year 1), followed by a quantitative online survey phase (Year 2), as well as analysis of AI policy statements from selected universities and academic publishers.
The Research Fellow will engage in all aspects of participant recruitment and data collection, management and analysis for both phases of the project, and will conduct the largest share of the UK-based interviews. The Research Fellow will help design, pilot and administer the online survey, and take responsibility for policy document search and analysis.
The Research Fellow will play a significant part in disseminating the outcomes of the project and will be a co-author on all outputs and lead author of at least one.
This is a full-time fixed-term contract finishing on 30 March 2027. It is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral scholar keen to join a vibrant academic community and build a portfolio of research experience and outputs.
