The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and efficacy of veterinary medicines in the UK.

We have vacancies for Application Coordinators

Do you love animals? We do, and that’s why our aim is to promote animal welfare by assuring the quality, safety and effectiveness of veterinary medicines and, in doing so, we protect public health, animal health and the environment.

This exciting and interesting administrative job puts you at the heart of the VMD’s work in being the regulatory and policy lead for issues concerning the authorisation, use, and manufacture of veterinary medicines in the UK.

You will be part of a large operational delivery team that progresses applications received in respect of veterinary medicines and their associated life-cycle. You will work closely with administrative and scientific colleagues as well as external stakeholders, including the pharmaceutical industry and regulators from other countries.

These are busy, complex roles operating in an ever-changing policy environment. You will mostly work within clearly defined rules, regulations and policies, and the output will be guided by practice and precedent. However, due to legislative review, policies continue to evolve, and new precedents emerge, so you must be adaptable to change.

Experience

The emphasis for this role is on strong organisation and problem-solving skills with demonstratable experience of working to tight deadlines in a complex and varied working environment.

You must be a quick learner with the ability to get up to speed rapidly with the nature of the work, including learning in-house IT systems.

We are looking for you to have experience of/in:

  • Working under pressure within a target driven environment.
  • Working in accordance with guidelines, policies and procedures, but also adapting to situations when these don’t apply.
  • Developing strong relationships with internal colleagues and external stakeholders.

You must:

  • Be fluent in English language (spoken and written)
  • Be competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Have a good level of numeracy

The closing date for applications is 24th February 2025.
