About the role:

Applications are invited for a Project Manager post in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, based at the White City Campus of Imperial College London. The department undertakes leading interdisciplinary research on infectious diseases, using approaches ranging from molecular biology, environmental surveillance to mathematical studies of transmission dynamics and disease control.

A wide range of pathogens are studied in the department, including vector-borne diseases, enteroviruses, several major bacterial pathogens and a variety of parasitic infections among others. The Project Manager will be based within the Vaccine Epidemiology Research Group, which is headed by Professor Nicholas Grassly. The department offers excellent research facilities and a friendly, intellectually stimulating working environment.

What you would be doing:

The Project Manager will be responsible for supporting a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation project focusing on direct detection of poliovirus in its implementation and successful delivery.  

This includes general project administration, project, scientific and communication management and support, liaising internally and externally about contracting, finance tracking and forecasting, travel arrangement, reporting to the funding body and horizon scanning to identify new funding opportunities. The Project Manager will also support projects related to the interruption of poliovirus transmission. The Project Manager will report to the Senior Project Manager for the Vaccine Epidemiology Research Group.

What we are looking for:

The Project Manager will be responsible for:

  • Tracking progress on project working groups, organising travel and all meetings including steering committee and annual meetings;
  • Remaining in constant communication with the project PI and Senior Project Manager;
  • Taking minutes and summarising action points, ensuring that these are followed up in a timely manner;
  • Facilitating contract set up with project partners;
  • Assistance in the preparation of ethical approval protocols, as needed;
  • Support to the senior project manager in financial management, including financial forecasting to monitor spending;
  • Horizon scanning to identify new stakeholders and funding opportunities.

Candidates must have a Master’s degree in an area related to infectious diseases or global health, or extensive career experience of working in administrative posts supporting global health projects. Experience in the management and coordination of international collaborative research projects and/or administrative activities and financial reporting is desirable. Applicants should be able to work independently and as part of an international research team. Good communication skills are essential.
