About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Bath to work with Professor Chris Bowen, who has been awarded a prestigous UKRI Frontier Research Project in Porous Processing of Smart Porous Electro-Ceramic Transducers (ProSPECT).
A range of multi-disciplinary energy harvesting methods will be examined within the project. You will develop processing methods and models for producing porous ferroelectric materials via freeze casting to produce a range of porous structures, including templated structures and composites.
Applications include SONAR, sensing and energy harvesting for converting mechanical vibrations into electrical energy for high-temperature applications. Research will be disseminated in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and key international conferences.

This position is offered on a full-time basis, fixed term for 2 years from 1st April 2025.
About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
A lower grade offer may be made (Grade 6) with comparable reduction in responsibilities and amendment in job title to Research Assistant, if a suitable applicant cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position. Applicants will need to be within six months of their course completion date and will be promoted to Research Associate once their PhD has been awarded.
