Job Summary

The Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London has the exciting opportunity to appoint a Research & Finance Manager to lead the core financial and research management function of the department. This senior role combines technical skills in financial management with leadership of a dedicated team to deliver excellent support to the Department.

Duties and responsibilities

You will be responsible for research and financial operations of a turnover of £60+M, working with the Director of Operations to budget, plan, forecast, and periodically report on financial activities. You will support our academic staff in managing the funding and administration of their world-leading research.

This is a busy and dynamic role that plays an essential part in the Department’s success and would suit those with a good eye for detail, strong focus on process improvement, ability to juggle a fast-paced workload and those who enjoy interacting with a wide variety of colleagues.

Essential requirements

  • Previous experience in the higher education sector in a similar or related position(s) demonstrating development through involvement in a series of progressively demanding work roles
  • Financial acumen – strong budget planning and management skills, proven ability to understand, analyse, interpret and communicate financial information
  • Outstanding people management skills, with the ability to lead and develop a team with diverse responsibilities
  • Excellent communicator – highly developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Tactful, diplomatic, and able to influence and engage with people at all levels
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills: confident working on multiple projects and work streams simultaneously
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, or equivalent experience in similar or related roles
  • A willingness to be onsite working across two campuses to effectively lead a customer focused service
