Contract: Sessional (Term Time: September 2024 – July 2025)

Role Purpose

To facilitate high-quality learning within the Institute through teaching, administration, and student support.

We seek UKCP or BACP-registered counsellors and psychotherapists to join our dynamic teaching teams. Our Diploma and MSc in Psychotherapy are UKCP-accredited and validated by Middlesex University, and our undergraduate courses are BACP-accredited. We offer an integrated approach across all modalities.

Specialising in either Gestalt, Person-Centred, Transactional Analysis, or an Integrative/Humanistic approach, you will teach one day per week across 20 days in the academic year. Joining a supportive team, you will help shape future counsellors and psychotherapists during an exciting growth phase.

Key Responsibilities

Learning, Teaching, and Assessment

  • Prepare and develop teaching materials.
  • Deliver module content.
  • Set, mark, and assess assignments and case studies; participate as a viva assessor.
  • Innovate teaching and assessment methods while ensuring quality delivery.

Academic Advice

  • Guide students in tutorials to support their progress.
  • Understand course philosophy, assessment requirements, and university regulations.

Management and Administration

  • Attend tutor meetings.
  • Liaise with the academic coordinator.
  • Assist with course administration, including student recruitment, induction, and record-keeping.
  • Manage personal administrative tasks.

General

  • Represent Metanoia at professional bodies, events, and conferences.
  • Follow Metanoia’s policies, including Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, and Codes of Ethics.

Essential and Desirable Criteria

Essential

  • Professional qualification in psychotherapy or counselling.
  • Registration with UKCP, BACP, or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching or training in higher education or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant modalities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team-working skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage conflicts.

Desirable

  • PGCert HE or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Understanding of higher education systems and regulations.
  • Knowledge of contemporary counselling/psychotherapy issues.

Additional Skills

  • Creativity, vision, and adaptability.
  • Proficiency in digital tools for teaching.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment.
