Applications are sought for an Ad Astra Fellow in Digital Music Cultures, to be based in the UCD School of Music.
The UCD School of Music is a vibrant centre for research and teaching that has played a leading role in Irish musical life for over a century. It is home to a diverse faculty of scholars and practitioners, with strengths across historical musicology, ethnomusicology, performance, and composition. The University has recently made substantial investments in music and in the creative industries, including new state-of-the-art rehearsal facilities and a blackbox theatre and media lab. UCD is now a world top 100 performing arts institution (QS subject rankings 2023 and 2024). The successful applicant will have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in the UCD School of Art History and Cultural Policy, the UCD School of English, Drama, and Film, and elsewhere in UCD, as well as with the Creative Futures Academy, a groundbreaking partnership between UCD, the National College of Art and Design, and the Institute of Art, Design, and Technology.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research initiatives in digital cultures and the creative industries. They will apply for research funding and will be encouraged in particular to apply for Horizon Europe funding, whether through the European Research Council (under pillar 1), the Culture, Creativity, and Inclusive Society research cluster (pillar 2), or the European Institute of Technology (pillar 3). We are especially keen to receive applications from candidates with interests in developing collaborations across disciplines, schools, and institutions and from candidates whose work could speak to policy issues in the digital creative industries.
Following an initial three-year period with a reduced teaching load, the successful candidate will teach on undergraduate programmes in Music and in Creative and Cultural Industries and on the School of Music’s MMus Music and Culture programme. They will also supervise a fully funded doctoral student from no later than the second year of their appointment.
