Can you turn data challenges into opportunities for growth? Are you ready to shape impactful improvements in health and social care research?

We are seeking a Business Analyst to join our team at the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Co-ordinating Centre in Southampton. This exciting role offers the chance to make a real impact on our business processes and data quality initiatives.

Who are we?

The NIHR funds, enables and delivers world-leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth. Our research helps turn discoveries into new or improved treatments, diagnostics, medical technologies and services. It provides those working in the NHS, public health, global health and social care with the evidence they need to better support patients, the public and people who need care.

Further information on the NIHR can be found at: www.nihr.ac.uk. You are encouraged to review our operational priorities and to watch this introductory video.

What will you be doing?

You will play a key role in enhancing data quality and optimizing our business systems and processes. You’ll collaborate across teams to anticipate and resolve data challenges, gather user requirements for system enhancements, and drive continuous improvement. You will also support project management and change initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Advising on and resolving data quality issues while embedding best practices in new processes.
  • Supporting users to maximize the benefits of business systems, including addressing technical issues.
  • Maintaining and improving business process documentation.
  • Gaining an in-depth understanding of NETSCC’s operations and contributing to stakeholder engagement during change initiatives.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for a skilled professional with a background in data management, analysis, and business process improvement. You should have strong IT skills, experience in cleaning and analysing data, and a proven ability to identify and resolve data quality issues.

Other key skills include:

  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage your workload effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, with a detailed and solutions-focused approach.
  • Effective communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and present findings clearly.
  • Confidence in challenging existing practices and contributing ideas for improvement.
  • The flexibility to work in a dynamic environment where priorities may shift.

Experience with tools like SQL, Tableau, or PowerBI and a background in a research environment would be an advantage.

What can we offer you?

We recognise that our staff are at the heart of what we do so we make sure we look after you! As well as a generous benefits package (full details here!), as an organisation we prioritise your wellbeing as reflected in  the Mind Workplace Wellbeing awards, where we have achieved Gold for the fifth year in a row!

Our hybrid working approach helps you with your work life balance and offers you the chance to split your time between office and home working. We strive for cohesive and collaborative teams so our expectation is you spend around 20% of your time in the office. We also know that personal development is important and have a range of ways to support you with this.
