Applications are invited for a full time IT Specialist based at the Scott Polar Research Institute, Lensfield Road, Cambridge. The combination of academic research and teaching, a public museum, and an internationally significant library, archive and picture library, means that the Institute undertakes a wide range of activities, and has a broad range of IT needs from basic desktop support, work with collections software and advanced scientific computing.
We are looking for a professional, friendly, independent, and flexible IT Specialist with the skills necessary to deliver a high level of IT support, IT infrastructure support, and IT development activity at the Institute.
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a scientific, numerical or IT-related subject. They will have demonstrable experience and knowledge of IT management systems such as Microsoft Windows, Linux and Mac OS and expertise in collection management software. They will also have the skills to support scientific computing at the Institute, provide advice and support on IT issues such as web design and database migration, as well as conducting day to day IT problem solving and A/V support for onsite teaching and events.
Whilst primarily providing IT support on site at the Institute, the post holder will also be a member of the neighbouring Department of Chemistry's IT team, with training and guidance provided by IT colleagues and reporting to the Head of Chemistry IT. The post holder will also need to be able to collaborate with colleagues in the main Department of Geography and the central University Information Services (UIS) when appropriate.
Funding for the role at SPRI exists for 2 years in the first instance.
