The Centre for Medical Informatics at the Usher Institute within The University of Edinburgh is looking for a Social Scientist, or healthcare professional with qualitative research experience.

The opportunity:

This post offers the opportunity to work on an exciting new precision medicine initiative. Precision medicine has the potential to fundamentally change medical intervention is delivered. Instead of a one-size-fits-all treatment, it focuses on preventing diseases before they start by identifying people who are more likely to get sick and also aims to prevent existing conditions from getting worse. This method customizes care for each person's unique body, how they might react to medicines, and other personal health factors.

Our team has been commissioned by the European Union to evaluate the development of a data platform aiming to improve the clinical outcomes of patients with malignant glioma: - gliomatch.eu.

You will work in a fast-paced, inter-disciplinary, agile research environment collaborating with 14 international and industry partners to help develop and test novel techniques and technologies. This will involve training participating sites to conduct a qualitative process evaluation of the development and implementation of the platform.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A master’s degree in a relevant area
  • PhD (or near completion) or equivalent (e.g. healthcare professional experience) experience in a broad area of Digital Health
  • Knowledge of health service organisations in the UK/overseas
  • Experience in qualitative data collection and analysis 
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to scholarship
