Job purpose and scope

The University of Manchester has a vacancy for an experienced Research Associate to join our team working full-time on a research project funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The aims of the project are to evaluate how Secondary Care Mental Health Treatment Requirements (SC-MHTRs) are being delivered at three proof-of-concept sites in England and in one site in Wales; identify what works, for whom at each of the study sites, understand what the mechanisms are that underpin this; and how to evaluate a future full national SC-MHTR programme.

The Research Associate will support the Principal Investigators (Dr Louise Robinson and Dr Sandra Flynn) and other researchers to ensure the project milestones are successfully achieved. Your role will include recruiting and conducting interviews with key stakeholders including court liaison and diversion staff, judges, magistrates, probation officers, psychiatrists, CPNs, local managers, patients, and carers. Also facilitating workshops to develop good practice guidance. You will also work alongside our PPIE researchers and panel, actively engaging with them throughout the project.

The post requires expertise and experience of research (data collection, supervised project management, literature reviews, data analysis) and a strong understanding of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. You will be a talented, self-motivated independent researcher with drive, enthusiasm and excellent communication skills. You will have excellent written, verbal and numeracy skills and a strong ability to work independently and as part of a team and manage key milestones and objectives. You will have excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage parallel tasks with tight deadlines.

You will be based at the University of Manchester but will be required to travel nationally to conduct some in person interviews and so independent means of travel is essential. The post is subject to an Enhanced DBS.
