University of Nottingham Ningbo China is seeking to recruit a Teaching Fellow in International Studies in School of International Studies

Your Responsibility

Your key responsibilities include:

  • To plan and manage own teaching and provide advice as a member of the IS teaching team within the IS UG / PG programme of study, in a variety of settings including small group tutorials as well as lectures.
  • Identify the learning needs of students and ensure that the content, methods of delivery and learning materials meet the defined learning objectives of various courses.
  • To develop a national reputation in teaching through contributions to scholarly debate and discussion in the field of Political Science and / or Public Policy including a contribution to writing up research findings for publication in leading journals and dissemination at national/international conferences etc.
  • To identify and investigate issues which relate to teaching and learning which may arise in the broad area of International Studies both individually and/or collaboratively.
  • To contribute to the effective management and administration of the School by performing duties allocated by the Head of IS. This may include responsibility for administrative duties in areas such as admissions, time-tabling, examinations, and assessment of progress and student attendance.

About You

We are now looking for a talented and promising scholar to join our School as a teaching fellow. This is a temporary position for one year, available from August 1st 2025 or soon after, to primarily support teaching delivery. 

For this position, applicants should have a completed PhD in Political Science, Public Policy, or a related area by the start date for the post. Candidates working in the general area of International Studies will be also considered.

A crucial requirement is for candidates to evidence experience in teaching beyond their area of specialization. Candidates should demonstrate willingness and ability to contribute to the broader teaching in International Studies, which includes interdisciplinary modules in International Relations, Public Policy, Political Thought, Welfare States, Global Development Politics, Diplomacy, Foreign Policy and other courses run in the school. The successful candidate must be able to teach courses at the undergraduate and post graduate level and effectively supervise undergraduate and Masters level dissertations.

Your Remuneration, Benefits and Support

The post will initially be offered on a fixed term contract with the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China for a period of 1 year starting August 2025.

Salary will be within the range of RMB350,343 to RMB477,481 per annum depending on skills and experience (salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance).  In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments.
