The Department of Computing is seeking a Taught Programme Officer to join our Teaching Team. The new member of staff will be the main port of call for student services, supporting students with information and advice. We are looking for a confident team player to provide support for the Department’s undergraduate (UG), MRes and MSc administration, including all admissions and relevant examination processes, assisting the UG Admissions Tutor, MSc Senior Tutor, Directors of Undergraduate, MSc and MRes degrees and Examinations Coordinator. In addition, the post holder will provide an efficient and effective service to the staff and students of the Department, covering the full range of activities in the Student Office.

Duties include acting as the first point of contact and providing information for staff, students and other internal and external visitors and callers to the Teaching Support Office; processing MSc and MRes applications; compiling class lists, creation of tutorial groups and statistical information and provision of information to academics for references for students; processing UCAS applications; organising and minuting staff-student committee meetings; monitoring and maintaining accurate records of students’ attendance. You will assist Examinations Coordinator with the day-to-day running of the examinations process, including correspondence with academic staff, external examiners and the Registry (and students), checking timetables and other exam documentation.

Acting as the main point of contact for the Department’s Taught courses, you will support other Teaching team members at busy times of year to ensure efficient service delivery, as directed by the Teaching Support Manager.

To be successful, you will:

  • Be educated to degree level (or equivalent) or a comparable level of professional experience.
  • Have experience of working in a busy administrative role, preferably within an academic environment.
  • Have experience of working in a busy administrative role within an academic environment.
  • Have experience of dealing with confidential material at a senior level.
  • Have experience of dealing with admissions and examination processes
  • Have strong IT skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and databases.
  • Have excellent communication and customer service skills including a polite telephone and email manner.
  • Have the ability to interact with all levels of staff and students with confidence and diplomacy.
