We seek exceptional scientists with a world-class research track record and a strong commitment to teaching. The positions are available from 1st October 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Department offers a leading research and teaching environment (www.msm.cam.ac.uk). Successful candidates will demonstrate outstanding research achievements and a compelling vision for long-term science programmes, building on the Department's strengths and Cambridge’s research environment to foster collaborations and deliver innovative science and applications.

Applications are welcome from all areas of Materials Science, with priority for Structural Materials, Ceramics, and Materials Chemistry. One postholder will also co-direct the Department's MPhil in Micro- and Nanotechnology Enterprise, a 10-month interdisciplinary programme combining taught modules and a research project, with contributions from Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, and Engineering.

Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant subject, demonstrate leadership in research, and show enthusiasm for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Candidates will contribute to academic activities within the Department and the wider School of Physical Sciences.

We encourage applications from women and candidates from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds, as these groups are under-represented at this level. Appointments will be based on merit alone. • A two-page teaching statement outlining your approach and contributions to the Department’s teaching.
  • A one-page statement on your contributions to research culture, equality, diversity, and inclusivity.

Shortlisted candidates will visit the Department, present their research and teaching plans, and participate in interviews.

For informal enquiries, contact the Office of Head of Department (Prof Jason Robinson, Ruth Cameron, and James Elliott) at hod@msm.cam.ac.uk.
