The School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics (SECaM) wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the work of Prof Lars Johanning on a research project funded through the UoP International Collaboration Investment Fund project 'OcEn’.

The project aims on user-inspired research that conceptualizes and utilizes ocean energy systems to achieve just, environmentally responsible, and climate responsive futures. An overview of the project can be found here. This is a full-time post working 37 hours per week on a fixed-term basis due to funding and is available from 1st of April 2025 for 36 months. The role would be based at the campus of the University of Plymouth, but some flexibility working off-site can be accommodated. The successful candidate will be appointed at Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Grade 7) depending on the skills and experience the individual can bring to the role.

About the role

The project is an interdisciplinary, cross-country collaboration with leading global research Universities from US, Canada and Australia. The tasks associated to this post include research towards ORE manufacturing and installation processes, including maritime simulation approaches; and marine management O&M & lifecycle optimization, including marine management and O&M optimizing processes.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for an individual, with appropriate skills with simulation and optimization techniques in Maritime and O&M. Applicants will possess a PhD in a relevant research area and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in maritime simulation approaches; and marine management O&M & lifecycle optimization processes, as well as an appreciation of the research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. At Postdoctoral Research Fellow level, you will be a nationally recognised authority in offshore renewable energy, with skills in ocean energy; and be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. You will also be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, and be able to develop research programmes and methodologies.

The successful candidate may be required to obtain an ATAS Certificate prior to this research being undertaken.

For this role, you will need to be on site 2 days a week. Although we can accommodate hybrid working, flexibility to be on-site will be expected depending on business needs.
