University of Oxford - RDM Division of Cardiovascular Medicine

Location: Oxford
Salary: £36,616
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 20th January 2025
Closes: 20th February 2025
Job Ref: 177758

The University of Oxford is seeking to appoint a full-time Clinical Research Fellow on a fixed term basis for 3 years, with an interest in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and multiorgan imaging to join our team at the Radcliffe Department of Medicine (RDM)

RDM-Cardiovascular Medicine provides a vibrant and dynamic environment for researchers and clinicians, offering state-of-the-art facilities and a multidisciplinary team approach to cardiovascular research and clinical practice.

You will be expected to undertake research to evaluate the impact of common and rare pathogenic genetic variants on cardiac and extracardiac phenotype (e.g., to further our understanding of multiorgan interactions in inherited diseases). The applicant is expected to have academic credentials that would make them competitive for an advanced research degree. The post holder will also have an opportunity to undertake mechanistic research in HCM using novel MR imaging techniques (e.g., assessment of myocardial energetics, perfusion, oxygenation, fibre orientation) to assess therapeutic response to novel treatments, while also building expertise in extracardiac imaging (liver, brain, kidneys). Knowledge and experience in CMR and other imaging modalities, i.e., echocardiography and CT, or advanced image analysis would be considered an advantage.

The opportunities and responsibilities for post holders will include to: (1) actively recruit, scan participants, and deliver this research programme as outlined in the NIHR BRC objectives in coordination with the existing research team, (2) analyse existing CMR and multiorgan MRI data sets.

The applicant may have an opportunity to develop their own PhD (DPhil) research project based around CMR in inherited and acquired cardiomyopathies. The post holder will additionally receive training in the acquisition and interpretation of CMR scans.

The ideal candidate would be medically qualified with full GMC registration, a license to practice in the UK, and already solid experience in cardiology, both clinical and in research. It is particularly suitable for Specialty Trainees in Cardiology seeking to pursue an academic career and specialisation in cardiomyopathy.

The post holder will take part in the academic activity of the Department, e.g. contributing to scientific meetings, presentations and working collaboratively to help to realise the ambitious research programme that is underway. The successful candidate would be expected to start by March 7th – 14th.

This is a 3-year fixed term post

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Prof Betty Raman at Betty.raman@cardiov.ox.ac.uk

For more information about working at the Department, see https://www.rdm.ox.ac.uk/

Only online applications received before midday on the February 20th  can be considered.

You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, including a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.

Interviews will take place week commencing 27th and 28th of February 2025
