Student Welfare and Support Services works collaboratively on student health and welfare issues with colleagues in colleges, academic and administrative departments, the Oxford University Student Union, and key statutory services and partners outside of the University. Services include the Counselling Service, Disability Advisory Service, the Sexual Harassment and Violence Support Service, Peer Support Programme, and Mental Health Awareness initiatives.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Academic Skills Advisor (Assistive Technology) to join our team on a fixed-term basis until July 2026. This role plays a crucial part in supporting disabled students across a wide range of disabilities, with a particular focus on assisting blind and partially sighted students. The Academic Skills Advisor ensures students are informed about available assistive technologies (AT) and are equipped to use them effectively to enhance their learning experience.

In this role, you will also provide consultancy support to staff working directly with disabled students, helping to share resources, information, and insights on assistive technology. You will play a key role in promoting digital accessibility and inclusive practices across the collegiate institution to support academic skills development.

This opportunity is ideal for an experienced assistive technology specialist with strong project management skills and a passion for enhancing the experiences of disabled students. You will work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues within the Disability Advisory Service, Centre for Teaching and Learning, and other key stakeholders within the wider University (e.g. colleges, departments, IT Services, the Assistive Resources and Creation Unit, Digital Education, and Academic Skills teams).

About You:

• Extensive experience assessing and recommending assistive technology for disabled individuals in education or similar settings.
• Demonstrable understanding of the demands of a university learning environment.
• Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of assistive technology options to support a range of disabilities, including blind and partially sighted students.
• Experience providing academic study skills support to students.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across multiple departments and teams.
• Proven ability to independently manage and deliver projects while handling a varied workload with competing demands.
