About the Role
The Branco lab’s research focuses on the epigenetic regulation of transposable elements (TEs). We use epigenomic approaches and molecular biology tools to investigate the epigenetic mechanisms involved in the various facets of TE biology. We aim to elucidate the functional roles that TEs play in the contexts of development, health and disease. To find out more about the lab visit https://brancolaboratory.com. This post is funded by a BBSRC grant that aims to evaluate the gene regulatory roles of TEs in the epithelial layer of the human endometrium, which plays key roles in supporting pregnancy. The post holder will use endometrial organoids together with epigenomic profiling, genetic and epigenetic editing, as well as other complementary approaches, to assess the functional impact of TEs on endometrial function. They will also use organoids from non-human primates to gain an evolutionary perspective of how TEs shaped the regulatory landscape of the endometrial epithelium.
About You
We’re seeking an ambitious and self-motivated postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in cellular and molecular biology, preferably in the context of mammalian development, and/or pregnancy. Expertise in epigenomic profiling techniques and associated bioinformatics would be highly advantageous. Experience with organoid culture and manipulation would also be valued but not essential.
About the Institute
The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six Institutes within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute comprises approximately 350 staff based in four academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.
