The role
We are seeking to appoint a talented researcher with experience in large routinely collected datasets, data access processes, information governance and quantitative analysis. The appointee will have experience working in applied health research, public health, epidemiology or medical statistics and interested in working on a range of topics within the National Institute for Health Research Applied Research Collaboration West (NIHR ARC West; https://arc-w.nihr.ac.uk/about-arc-west/).
The post is full-time (35 hrs per week, but part-time is possible) until 31 March 2026, based in the University of Bristol, and starting as soon as possible.
What will you be doing?
Applicants will be involved in developing code lists, completing ethics and data access applications, information governance for routinely collected datasets, preparation of datasets, writing statistical analysis plans and study protocols. They will also be performing quantitative analyses using appropriate statistical software, interpreting the data, and writing up the findings for publications. Research methods include observational studies based on routine and specifically collected data. The successful applicant will work primarily on the projects within the ARC West’s Mental Health Theme in the first instance. However, this will be flexible and most of our teams work across a variety of research areas. The role may also include some time spent within a partner organisation (e.g. one of the regional integrated care systems) as an embedded researcher, or supporting members of staff from a partner organisation to develop new statistical analytical skills they could apply in their organisation.
You should apply if
The role would suit applicants with experience in obtaining access to routinely collected datasets, developing code lists for use in electronic health care records and have a good understanding of information governance policies. They will have experience in quantitative analytical methods applied to health research, competence with using statistical software (e.g., Stata, R), and willing to develop skills in advanced statistical methods. The applicant should have a higher degree in a relevant discipline. They will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
