Full Time Bursar – Teikyo University of Japan in Durham
Teikyo University of Japan In Durham looks for a pro-active, professional, enthusiastic and reliable Bursar from 10th March 2025. Your normal hours of work will cover 5 days per week at Teikyo University in Durham and involve tasks as stipulated within the attached Job Description.
Schedule: 35 Hours per week: Monday – Friday: 09:00 – 17:00 (1 hour Lunch Break per day).
Salary: Circa £52,000 - £54,000 per annum (pro rata) dependent on experience.

Main duties
- Monitoring financial matters as directed by the Principal and the Board of Directors.
- Preparation of annual draft forecast for income and expenditure, for submission to the Principal for inclusion in the Financial Review and Financial Plan.
- Monitoring implementation of the budget and presentation of management reports, as requested.
- Scrutiny and certification of payment of all contractor’s and supplier’s accounts.
- Act as Secretary to the Board of Management, preparing agenda, for all meetings of the Board of Management and for recording the Minutes.
- Authorise arrangements for home-stay pupils, during the Summer and Christmas vacations through the Head of EFL.
- Organising all property renovations, leases, provision of staff accommodation, planning appeals, surveys and formal lease records.
- Planning, direction and management of the College’s domestic arrangements including cleaning and normal maintenance through the Head Porter and the Housekeeper.
- Development and maintenance of the College’s property and fittings and the appointment of contractors to assist, where necessary, within approved levels of expenditure.
- Management and supervision of the maintenance of the estate and gardens.
- In conjunction with the Bursar at Teikyo Foundation (UK), management of the insurance of the College buildings, vehicles and equipment and monitoring all Health and Safety risks.
- Appointment, in conjunction with the Principal and HQ Teikyo University Japan, of EFL teachers and all support staff.
- Monitoring and reporting to the Principal, supporting documentation regarding payment of wages and salaries to all staff including PAYE, National Insurance and Pensions.
- Preparation of formal contracts, terms of employment for all staff and supervision of all non-teaching staff and relevant legislation including workforce health and safety (Chairman of the Health and Safety Committee).
- Procurement of household and educational supplies and equipment and the maintenance of appropriate inventories through Heads of Department.
- Making best use, during the College holidays, of the College’s assets and amenities to the greatest financial advantage, compatible with the College’s maintenance requirements and staffing considerations.
- Management of TUID’s vehicle fleet through the Head Porter.
- Organising bi-annual joint meetings with the Senior Officers from Durham University (Acting as first point of contact and secretary).
- Becoming an active member of at least two College SCR’s (Senior Common Rooms).
- Planning and personally hosting all visits by the Owner and Senior Japanese Staff to Durham.
- Managing all IT and Data Protection Policies.
- Supervising all Diversity Policies and Equal Opportunity Rules and Regulations.
- Liaison point of contact with Wadham College, University of Oxford and St Edmunds College, University of Cambridge for the planning of annual Induction Courses.
- Close communication with the Senior Tutor at Wadham College in support of the Okinaga Junior Research Fellowship (OJRF) in Japanese Studies.
