Position

The Head of Quality Assurance and Enhancement has responsibility for the leadership and management of the College’s academic quality assurance and enhancement including course validation and review, academic monitoring and reporting, academic and regulatory frameworks, student appeals and complaints, academic misconduct, external examiners, assessment boards and related policies, academic committee management, public information, student satisfaction and the NSS, and partnership arrangements. The postholder will also lead on staff development in areas including quality and enhancement as well as support the implementation of good practice, regulations and enhancement activity related to learning and teaching.

The postholder will work closely with the Executive and Senior Management Team providing expert advice and guidance to ensure the effective strategic development and impact of the University’s (UCA) quality assurance frameworks.

  • To be responsible for the strategic leadership, management and operation of the Department of Quality and all associated quality assurance functions in accordance with the vision, mission, strategic plan and policies and regulations of the College and its University partner.
  • To be responsible for the oversight, management and implementation of LCCAs quality assurance functions including the core areas of course validation and review, academic monitoring, academic and regulatory frameworks, student appeals and complaints, academic misconduct, external examiners, assessment boards and related policies, academic committee management, public information, student satisfaction and the NSS, and partnership arrangements.
  • In collaboration with the College Executive and Senior Management Team, lead and develop the University’s quality strategies, including learning, teaching and assessment strategies, taking into account external requirements from the validating institution and regulatory bodies such as the QAA and OfS.
  • To be responsible for the provision of professional and authoritative advice and expert information and guidance to the University community and its academic committees on all matters relating to quality assurance; academic standards, student engagement, and learning, teaching and assessment.
  • To be responsible for the management and oversight of the Internal Assessment Boards, including oversight of data and related assessment policies such as academic misconduct, appeals and mitigating circumstances.
  • To support the Deans with the implementation of QA and LTA policies and procedures including staff development and enhancement activity.
  • To be responsible for the management of the University’s relationships with, and obligations to, a range of external bodies in respect of quality management activities, including the Office for Students, the Quality Assurance Agency, and the Office of the Independent Adjudicator.
  • To be responsible for managing the College’s response to external audit, review and inspection by external stakeholders, including the validating body, the QAA and Office for Students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Ideally, leading a QA function for a minimum duration of 3 – 5 years
  • Significant experience of academic quality management in a UK HE context, including experience at a strategic level.
  • Significant experience of managing academic committees.
  • Significant experience of drafting, interpreting and advising on regulations and policy.
  • Experience of drafting academic strategy papers for high level committees.
  • Experience of collaborative partnerships in an HE context.
  • Experience of assessment methodologies and processes.
