Libraries, Museums and Galleries is seeking a Collection Information and Access Developer, to undertake work on an exciting archaeological collection-based project.
The University of Liverpool and National Museums Liverpool are partners in an AHRC RICHeS (Research Infrastructure for Conservation and Heritage Science) collections project, ‘Reconstructing the ancient past: Digital access and visibility of the Garstang distributed collection’. This is an opportunity to join the project team based at The University of Liverpool’s Garstang Museum.
The project focuses on archaeological collections excavated by John Garstang and distributed across institutions worldwide. This project addresses the complexities of this distribution, and the challenge of colonial acquisition practice. We aim to make the collection visible, accessible and usable, with countries of origin at the core, through both physical, hybrid and virtual access. The project will make research with the collection more efficient, effective, and collaborative. It will generate routes to other conservation science facilities and build a network and community of practice focused on digital reconstruction.
You will work closely with the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigators, leading the collection, standardisation and management of collection information, originating from collections held in Liverpool, and from institutions worldwide. Creating a community of practice, you will manage a network of institutions and repositories to enable access to the collection, make connections between distributed finds and support data collection and lead the development of a digital platform for collection information, visualisations and interpretive material. The post holder will also organise events to share knowledge and expertise, and they will facilitate both onsite and virtual consultations of archives and finds in Liverpool.
You should have a degree or equivalent qualification, or relevant professional experience.
The role is available on a fixed term basis, for 22 months from its commencement.
Closing date: 28-Jan-2025 23:30
Interviews are anticipated to take place week commencing 17th February 2025.
