Structural energy storage is a fast evolving aspect of composite materials science to enable part of the structure of a vehicle to not only provide stiffness and lightweighting, but also some of the power for its operation. The value proposition for structural energy storage requires that composite structures replace some of the function provided by energy storage devices such as batteries or capacitors; whilst retaining the ability to perform as load bearing elements of aircraft, cars or electronic devices. Candidate requirements: Applicants must hold/achieve a minimum a 2:1 MEng or merit at Masters level or equivalent in engineering, physics or chemistry. Applicants without a master's qualification may be considered on an exceptional basis, provided they hold a first-class undergraduate degree. Please note, acceptance will also depend on evidence of readiness to pursue a research degree and performance at interview.
