The Linguistics department has a track record of innovative and excellent research in formal theoretical linguistics and the cognitive science of language.
About the role
The Department of Linguistics seeks to train the next generation of linguists who are comfortable integrating computational approaches into their research; and to offer our undergraduate students development in skills that are applicable in the information/data industries. Thus the expectations for the role will include carrying out com putational research that makes substantive contact with language theory or research on cognitive science of language; advising masters and doctoral students; and contributing to the departmental teaching in natural language processing, computational linguistics, and linguistics, more generally. The appointment will be made within grade 8 (Lecturer) or grade 9 (Associate Professor). Grade 8 currently begins at an annual salary of £52,487 including London allowance; grade 9 currently begins at an annual salary of £66,711 including London allowance.
About you
The successful candidate will have a clear program of research within computational linguistics which makes contact with language theory or cognitive science of language. The successful candidate will have an outstanding record of high-quality publications and research-related activity commensurate with the stage of their academic career. They should hold a PhD in computational linguistics or a closely related are a. The successful applicant will be expected to commence their appointment at UCL on 1st September 2025.
