Lab Technician

Queen Mary University of London - School of Physical and Chemical Sciences

Location: London
Salary: £39,065 to £44,448 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 19th December 2024
Closes: 16th January 2025
Job Ref: 4750

About the Role

This role focuses on supporting a cutting-edge project aimed at scaling up microwave-driven dry methane reforming processes for syngas production—a critical step in advancing sustainable energy solutions. Working in collaboration with and under the supervision of Dr Michael Jie in the Chemistry Department, and instructed by the project funder (company), the successful candidate will contribute to achieving key project milestones.

The candidate will be responsible for designing and executing reproducible experiments to generate reliable statistical data. This includes replicating catalyst preparation and characterisation, performing dry methane reforming experiments under microwave-driven conditions, and conducting durability tests to ensure long-term catalyst performance. The role requires meticulous attention to detail and a strong focus on data integrity to deliver outcomes that align with industrial objectives.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and skilled individual with a strong background in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a closely related field. You should possess relevant knowledge and experience in catalyst preparation, characterisation, and evaluation. Familiarity with microwave-driven processes and syngas production would be advantageous, but not essential.

You should be comfortable working in a laboratory environment, with a proven ability to conduct and document experiments accurately and maintain a high standard of safety and organisation. Experience in maintaining accurate records and producing detailed reports is essential, as is the ability to analyse and interpret experimental data effectively.
