Job description:

We are looking for a highly technical, versatile individual with a passion for IT. You will join the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) IT Team as Senior IT Technician - Projects.

Representing the AMRC IT Team you will be embedded within key AMRC projects that have diverse, complex IT requirements. Establishing a deep understanding of both the general AMRC IT environment, and project specific ones is key. You will be supported by IT Management, including infrastructure, operations and information security as well as project management team colleagues.
Reporting to the AMRC IT Support Operations Manager you will be a primary point of contact for key AMRC projects. Working closely with AMRC and University IT colleagues as appropriate - you will support IT systems and staff within your designated project facilities.

As a highly visible, reliable and proactive member of our team, you will:

  • Work with central project teams, research groups and IT to support and maintain  IT systems that underpin project staff, facilities and research activities.
  • Adhere to relevant information and cyber security policies that govern IT systems and IT processes within our complex, fast paced and highly regulated projects.
  • Be flexible and proactive in your approach, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to fully understand project requirements.
  • Act as primary contact for projects within the IT team and for the IT team within projects.
  • Work with a range of standard and specialist IT hardware and software products.
  • Perform a varied support role, covering some first, second and third line activities escalating to more senior, or more specialist colleagues as required.
  • Demonstrate strong team-working, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, combined with excellent digital literacy.
  • Be proactive and have an eye for detail seeking ways to continually improve project IT processes, looking specifically for opportunities to increase security and compliance while reducing risk.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to further their IT Support career and play a key role embedded in some of AMRCs most complex projects. You will bring comprehensive IT technical support skills to the role, as well as a good understanding of IT security, governance, risk and compliance practices.

Appropriate National Clearances. Must be able to work in the UK without restrictions in accordance with UK National Law and be prepared to successfully undertake an appropriate level of UK National Security Vetting according to UK Government National Security Vetting criteria.
