This post is for a technician to work within an industry-funded project, titled ‘’Exploring and exploiting epigenetic immune memory in plants”. The project aims to develop a new technology to introduce epigenetically prime the plant immune system for enhanced defence against downy mildew disease.
You will carry out a screen to optimise epigenetic immune memory in transgenic Arabidopsis and lettuce plants by testing the impacts of ectopic induction of a DNA demethylase gene at different stages of plant development. You will isolate DNA and RNA for sequencing analysis of DNA methylation and gene expression analysis and quantify disease resistance upon challenge inoculation with downy mildew pathogens.
Applicants must have experience equivalent to Level 3 (BTEC/A Level) qualification in relevant field (e.g. biology or plant pathology) along with experience in molecular plant pathology, including extraction of DNA and RNA, quantitative PCR applications for determining gene expression and DNA methylation, and genetic transformation of plants.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
