Job description:
We have an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral research position working in the School of Journalism, Media and Communication, and with the Information School, at the University of Sheffield. Working under the supervision of Dr Irini Katsirea, the postholder will be conducting research on EU and national legal and regulatory instruments to combat the spread of false or misleading scientific narratives. The postdoctoral researcher will work as part of a team of seven researchers in the context of the European Media and Information Fund project on ‘Unreliable science: Unravelling the impact of mainstream media misrepresentation’, which is led by the University of Turku, Finland.
The postholder will be a member of the School of Journalism, Media and Communication with responsibility for carrying out research related to media and technology law and policy. The postholder will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in the Information School and in the Disinformation Research Cluster. This is an exciting opportunity for postdoctoral researchers to participate in international networks and have opportunities to present at international meetings and conferences.
The successful candidate should hold a PhD in law. You will have knowledge of and research experience in the area of media and communication law, digital media regulation and the right to freedom of expression. You should possess sufficient knowledge about contemporary debates around media, technology and AI policy, excellent communication skills and the ability to write for publication.
Applicants are not expected to have a working knowledge of law and policy on mis-and disinformation, but an interest in learning about the law as it relates to this area, is a key requirement.
We particularly encourage applicants with a good knowledge of German as one component of the project will be the analysis of German media law and regulation of mis-and disinformation. An interest in science policy and science communication would also be advantageous.
