Introduction to YSJ university
York St John is an ambitious, modern university at the heart of historic York and there has never been a more exciting time to join us. As one of the fastest growing universities in the U.K over recent years, we have a new strategy for the next decade, emphasising our commitment to widening opportunity through the power of education and contributing our talents to creating a fairer world, and a more prosperous region. We are putting inspirational learning and impactful research at the heart of this strategy, recognising our academic expertise as our greatest asset.
The role
You will be working as one of two Deputy Heads of Student and Graduate Employability. This is a newly structured team focusing on integrated career development learning as part of our ambitious aim to embed Work-related Experiential Learning (WREL) authentically across the whole curriculum. In addition, the wider team supports life changing opportunities for our students/graduates both in the UK and overseas as well as specific graduate and final year student support. As the Deputy Head focused on career development you will lead those primarily responsible for supporting academic colleagues to embed WREL in the curriculum and our Graduate Success Coaches who will be supporting the best possible outcomes for our graduates.
Required skills and experience
This role is 0.7FTE and a temporary maternity cover for one year. You will need to have recent and significant experience of leading teams and strategy for developing employability through the curriculum and be able to utilise that experience effectively from day one in the role. Therefore, we are looking for someone who is data driven, understands and can implement effective evaluation to ensure a priority focused team. Furthermore, you will need excellent and honed communication and persuasion skills to ensure that there is buy in to our approach across a range of stakeholders. You will need to be able to motivate a hard working and talented team, supporting their understanding of impact by setting meaningful targets and performance indicators.
