The Department of Clinical Neurosciences are seeking a new member to join the Vitreoretinal Research Group (VRG) which has a research portfolio investigating the causes (particularly the molecular biology), treatment and prevention of retinal detachment. We invite applications from suitably qualified individuals to take up appointment as soon as possible.

Candidates must have a proven track record of clinical expertise and academic research in Vitreoretinal surgery with extensive post CCT fellowship training. We would particularly welcome applications from a world-leading researcher with expertise in inherited vitreoretinopathies and their surgical management.

In addition, we are seeking candidates who have:

  • An outstanding track record of research and publishing high quality papers in ophthalmology.
  • The vision, leadership experience and enthusiasm to develop and maintain a leading research presence, and an established record of attracting research grant support to further this development.
  • An enthusiastic commitment to the recruitment, training and mentoring of the next generation of researchers, i.ncluding undergraduates, research students and postdoctoral researchers.
  • Clinical qualification including; GMC registration, a license to practice in ophthalmology and medical defence cover and extensive post CCT fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery.
  • The willingness and ability to contribute to clinical service delivery under an honorary consultant contract with Cambridge University NHS Foundation Trust.
  • A PhD / MD or equivalent postgraduate qualification.

The successful candidate will be expected to fulfil standard research and clinical duties associated with the grade which include teaching and research, examining, supervision and administration. A competitive salary will be offered.

This appointment requires an Honorary Clinical Contract.
