About the Role

A Research Assistant position is available at City St George’s, University of London to work with Professor Jodi Lindsay, Dr Adam Witney and Dr Alex McCarthy (Imperial College). The post-holder will be funded by the MRC Project Grant “Antimicrobial Resistance Gene Transfer in MRSA: Novel Mechanisms, Barriers, and Environmental Controls”.

The RA will work on a project aimed at characterising the distribution and function of genes controlling horizontal gene transfer in the important human and animal pathogen, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).  We use a combination of multidisciplinary methods, including gene transfer assays, genetic engineering, bioinformatics and tissue culture. The project also funds a Post-doctoral Research Fellow. Mentoring, training, leadership and conference opportunities are offered in a supportive environment.

About you

The ideal candidate should have a good BSc (or be close to completion) in microbiology or similar, with research laboratory experience in horizontal gene transfer and/or antimicrobial resistance genes mobility.  We are looking for an ambitious person with exceptional attention to detail, who wishes to develop their career and make exciting translational discoveries in the AMR field.
