This new full–time post is available immediately on a fixed-term basis for two years.
The post
The Geography Department working closely with the Business School wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in the project “Renewing biodiversity through a people-in-nature approach (RENEW)”, which seeks to develop solutions to one of the major environmental challenges for humankind: the renewal of biodiversity (renewbiodiversity.org.uk). This NERC funded post is available immediately. The successful applicant will be responsible for Theme 4 objective 4.3 co-designing and developing a comprehensive biodiversity platform – a website-based digital toolbox that will help businesses understand and address their impacts on nature and biodiversity. They will also contribute to objective 4.1, by identifying information barriers and scientific enablers to business action on nature to inform a nature champions guide.
The post will focus on curating relevant content and developing interactive applications and data visualisations to help businesses understand their potential impacts and dependencies on nature. This comes at a crucial time when businesses are increasingly being called upon to report on their nature-related impacts. Working closely with the Theme 4 team and wider RENEW partners and collaborators, including the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Business for Nature, and high-profile organisations such as the World Economic Forum, the post holder will create an accessible entry point for businesses and the finance sector to understand and visualise their impacts on biodiversity.
About you

The successful applicant will have strong programming skills in R/Python (or equivalent) and demonstrable ability to visualise data in ways that support business decision-making.
Applicants will combine technical expertise with science communication skills and be capable of working collaboratively with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, including business and financial managers, environmental scientists, and nature groups. They will be able to demonstrate experience in platform/website development, successful delivery of multi-partnership projects, and an ability to design and implement user-friendly digital solutions such as interactive apps. They will also be able to work collaboratively with research colleagues across multiple disciplines, including RENEW’s extensive range of project partners, with particular focus on those in the business and finance sectors.
