The Ramon Areces Fellowship in Modern Spanish Studies

Applications are invited for the Ramon Areces Fellowship in Modern Spanish Studies for the academic year 2025-2026. The Ramon Areces Visiting Fellow will undertake research in any subject related to modern Spain, in the context of social science and history.

Applicants should hold a doctorate at the time of application and a good working knowledge of English is essential.

The Fellow will pursue his/her own research and participate fully in the academic life of St Antony’s College and the European Studies Centre.

The fellowship is awarded for three terms from 1 October 2025 until 30 June 2026. It carries a research grant of £30,000 plus other College benefits. Taxation in the UK and elsewhere depends on the individual circumstances of the candidate and independent personal advice should be taken as necessary.

The successful candidate will become a member of the academic community of the European Studies Centre, and a Visiting Fellow of St Antony’s College. He/she will be expected to reside in Oxford during tenure, to pursue his or her own research. For example:

• To conduct research and publish original work;
• To deliver a public seminar;
• To participate in the activities of the ESC suggested to contribute with their knowledge to appropriate seminars and discussion groups at the European Studies Centre;
• The European Studies Centre, in consultation with the Fellow, can host an annual conference. Leveraging their networks and academic contacts, the Centre can invite scholars to present their work, fostering collaboration and engagement in the Fellow's field of expertise.

Grant:

There is a research grant of £30,000. Additional benefits include:

• Office space at the European Studies Centre;
• Use of College library and social facilities and College email account;
• Four High Table dinners in College, per term;
• Administrative support;
• Some funds for activities related to the research interests of the fellow.

• A clear research proposal which should specify the research question, approach, methodology, and intended outcome of the proposed research (3-5 pages)
• Curriculum Vitae
• Two names of referees with contact details
