Job description
Are you a recent school leaver or looking for a role that fits perfectly around school terms, offers stability, and provides a chance to make a real difference in the education of future scientists? If so, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!
At Bath Spa University, we are seeking a Science Technical Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team. This term-time-only role (37 hours per week, 40 weeks per year) is ideal for someone who values a great work-life balance. You’ll enjoy long summer breaks, school holidays off, and the satisfaction of being part of a vibrant university community.
About the role
As our Science Technical Assistant, your contributions will directly impact the success of teaching, research, and workshops at Bath Spa University. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our labs and teaching spaces are ready for action—setting up equipment, organising resources, and providing direct support to staff and students.
Your day will be full of variety: maintaining health and safety standards, responding to queries with a can-do attitude, monitoring stock, and keeping our labs clean, organised, and ready to inspire. You’ll also work closely with technical colleagues to ensure teaching and practical sessions run smoothly, helping to bring exciting science lessons to life.
This is your chance to be part of a dynamic and supportive team, enjoy a fantastic work-life balance with term-time hours, and grow your skills in an engaging and innovative environment.
About you
You will be a recent education leaver and or keen to start your career. You will have some knowledge of laboratories and scientific equipment, and will thrive whilst problem-solving, paying attention to detail, and delivering top-quality results. Your experience in customer support, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills will shine as you support students and staff, making science come alive.
With your commitment to health and safety you will thrive in our fast-paced setting. As a team player who remains calm under pressure, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting science courses and modules, ensuring every session runs smoothly.
