Animal Technician (Zoological Centre)

About the role:

The Bedford College Group are currently seeking an Animal Technician  join our Zoological Centre at our Shuttleworth campus, Old warden

As an Animal Technician, you will play a key role in the success of our students through:

Maintaining professional presentation and standards at the centre

Participating in the care of all species of animals housed at the centre

Communicating effectively and work proactively as part of a team

Contributing to maintaining high standards of animal welfare and assist in the development and enrichment of animal enclosures and accommodation

Undertaking administration of veterinary medicines under direction from the unit manager when required

Ideal candidates will have:

• Level 3 qualification in relevant subject (Animal Management / Animal Science)
• English and mathematics or similar at GCSE grade A-C or equivalent Industry experience of subject sector applying to teach
• Relevant current vocational experience in the animal care sector
• Experience of caring for a wide range of animals to include farm, pet and exotic species (chelonian, snakes, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates and exotic mammals)
• Knowledge of legislation relevant to the UK animal care industry
• Evidence of high performance in previous roles/jobs
• Experience of working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
• Evidence of understanding how to promote equality and diversity within the job role
• Ability to effectively research, develop and implement new learning materials to engage students in learning
• Ability to extend students learning experience by developing and implementing appropriate vocational opportunities.
• Responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults and for raising any concerns
• Willingness to travel to and work at all locations where we provide a service

What is an Associate?

Associates work on a short term basis as assigned. They teach or provide support services and they work with and are supported by core staff. As an Associate you will be issued with an Associate agreement, under this Agreement period you will be eligible to work on assignments offered to you. Typically an agreement runs from January to December and may be renewed thereafter.
