A position exists for an experienced Research Assistant/Associate to work in the Department of Engineering on digital supply chain analysis and design. This post offers exciting career development for an ambitious post-doctoral researcher to be part of a team working to drive vital research in relation to UKRI's Building a Secure and Resilient World strategic theme.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The Research Assistant/Associate will be working primarily on the research led by the Centre for International Manufacturing, which brings together expertise across the UK in modelling and mapping agri-food supply chain systems. Other current projects include a 5-year interdisciplinary research programme on urban food systems and projects in the pharma sector focussing on adaptive medicine supply chains enabled by digital technologies.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are a PhD in Engineering or related scientific discipline (or close to obtaining a PhD) plus an undergraduate and a masters' degree in a relevant scientific/engineering area. An essential requirement is research experience in all or some of the following areas:

  • International Manufacturing Supply Chains.
  • Digitalisation of Manufacturing Supply Chains.
  • Operations Management.
  • Supply and Value Network Mapping.
  • Network Optimisation and Simulation.
  • Systems modelling, Risk and Resilience Analysis.
  • Business Model and Scenario Analysis.
  • Dynamic Transformational Capabilities.

A record of publishing high quality research in leading journals is essential, together with a proven ability to communicate effectively with academic and industrial partners and provide academic support to graduate students.

The right candidate will demonstrate the potential to develop a leading role in projects in the Centre for International Manufacturing. They will be highly organised, able to prioritise and work efficiently to agreed objectives and timelines.

Salary Range:  Research Assistant: £32,296 - £34,866 Research Associate: £36,924 - £45,163

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months or until 31st January 2027 whichever comes soonest.
