Reporting to: College Archivist
Location: Jesus College, Cambridge
Hours: Part time, 14 hours per week (permanent)
Salary: In the range £26,000 to £32,000 per annum (pro-rata) depending on experience and qualifications

Main Purpose of the Job
The Assistant Archivist (Estates Cataloguer) will mainly be responsible for the organising, cataloguing and repackaging of the College’s Estate Archives. The main purpose of the role is twofold: to create catalogues of records relating to College properties and estates that will contribute to the overall aim of making the College Archives available for educational and scholarly purposes, but also to provide efficient finding aids for the use of the bursary when answering enquiries relating to current College property. The College’s Estate Archives are a considerable part of the main College Archives, which preserve the College’s historical identity and cultural memory, but also evidence the College’s proof of ownership to its landholdings.
Although the main purpose of the job is to catalogue the College Estate Archives, the postholder will also be asked to assist with wider Archive projects. They will also be expected to contribute towards the wider running of the College Archives including supporting research, answering external enquiries, retrieving documents, monitoring researchers and managing the reading room. They will deputise for the Archivist in their absence.

Probation period
The appointment will be subject to an initial probationary period of three months during which the appointment may be terminated by one week’s notice on either side. Following the successful completion of the probationary period, the period of notice would be one months’ notice on either side.
