UCL Mechanical Engineering is pleased to be recruiting for a new Research Fellow in Sensors for Surgery. The post will underpin our activities in thin haptic sensors for surgical gloves as part of an ERC Proof of Concept grant focused on use of sensorised surgical gloves for foetal medicine and neurosurgical applications. We have developed a series of thin haptic (pressure and force) sensors and related electronic hardware and read-out technologies. The work also involves following translational healthcare engineering steps in taking a medical device from laboratory to clinical practice to address a clinical need. The post-holder will work closely with Professor Manish K. Tiwari and collaborators from across UCL and the Hawkes Institute.
About the role
This post is a part of an ERC Proof of Concept grant and involves close collaborations with clinicians from the field of obstetrics and neurosurgery. The post-holder will be expected to have a strong background in biomedical engineering, with at least some exposure to electronics and sensing technologies. Experience in cell cultures & microbiological tests may also be beneficial. This is going to be a busy role with several clinical collaborations to be supported by the post-holder, using the sensorised surgical gloves and other related technologies to be developed while working closely within a large team and multidisciplinary collaborators.
