About the role
The Department of Biochemistry is dedicated to understanding biological processes at the molecular level. We research how these processes drive cellular and organismal organisation and behaviour. We work across disciplinary boundaries in an environment that actively facilitates collaborative science and each year we have approximately 450 students in the department, on a mix of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
We are seeking to appoint an NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) Facility Manager for the Biomolecular NMR Centre based in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. In this role you will take forward the department’s new strategy and help shape the future of NMR in Oxford.
Oxford's Biomolecular NMR Centre is one of the largest and best equipped NMR facilities in the UK, housing four solution-state NMR spectrometers operating at 1H frequencies of 500, 600, 750 and 950 MHz. Besides managing the day-to-day activities of the NMR facility, you will take a lead role in promoting the NMR Centre and work collaboratively with NMR users in the academic community at Oxford and beyond, as well as with the increasing number of biotechnology and pharmaceutical commercial partners. You will be given wide scope to design and implement new procedures to ensure consistent high-quality data collection, and to identify and implement new technologies and procedures that will help the NMR Centre best serve a diverse and growing user base. More information about the Centre can be found here: https://biochnmrcentre.web.ox.ac.uk.
The funds supporting this research project are provided by NMR Facility for 3 years.
The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
About you
You should hold a minimum of a PhD, or the equivalent in a relevant area of science. You should be an enthusiastic, proactive, and self-motivated scientist and manager with sufficient specialist knowledge in NMR spectroscopy to be able to train others and to troubleshoot experiments. Excellent organisational and communication skills, financial understanding and ability to work collaboratively are essential.
