About King’s Centre for International Education and Languages

King’s Centre for International Education and Languages is a new, cross-cutting Centre designed to widen the educational reach of King’s. It brings together three existing areas: King’s Foundations, Summer Programmes, and King’s Language Centre. This brings together international pathway provision, pre sessional programmes, pre-UG summer courses, UG summer modules, UG language modules, bespoke language programmes for the community and our partners and academic skills provision for all King’s students.

About King’s Foundations

King’s Foundations is a leading centre for English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and pathway education across the HE sector, accredited by the British Council. As one of the largest providers of pathway education, we welcome over 2,500 students each year across our King’s International Foundation Programmes and our range of  Pre-sessional Programmes. King’s Foundations is also responsible for the delivery of Academic Skills support across the university providing in person, online, and asynchronous programmes for students studying on all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at King’s.  In addition, we offer an increasing number of short courses in English language learning and teaching.

The Academic Skills team at King's Foundations is looking for a dynamic individual to join our team as a Lecturer in Academic Skills:  Maths & Stats.

King’s Foundations is a department within the Centre for International Education and Languages (CIEL) which provides high-quality academic skills, international pathway, and English language preparation courses for King’s students. Our mission is to enable and empower students to be the best they can be as part of a world-leading university. Valuing diversity, inclusivity, and cultural competency, we provide an outstanding student experience that integrates academic excellence with comprehensive support.  We are a team of around 115 colleagues (increasing to over 150 in the summer months) committed to achieving this mission.  The department has an annual turnover of around £30 million.

We are currently expanding our Academic Skills provision to include a wider range of discipline-specific content, open access sign-up workshops, 1:1 sessions, and online self-study materials with a focus on numeracy, data, statistics and maths support for students transitioning into or already studying at King’s.

The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, designing, and teaching sessions and resources related to academic maths skills education across the university, working with undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate taught (PGT) students both on campus and online. They will have a strong background in teaching and be comfortable working with small and large groups, as well as delivering 1:1s. A sound understanding of embedding the principles of academic maths literacy in UK higher education (UKHE) is essential

This is a part time post (21 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
