About the role
We are looking for a Research Associate to join the School of Geography, Geology and the Environment as a Palaeoclimatologist, supporting our Leverhulme Trust-funded project ‘Earth System dynamics at the dawn of the animal-rich biosphere’. You would work both collaboratively and independently as part of a research team that spans Leicester, Cambridge, and Burgundy universities.
The Palaeoclimatologist role will involve the collection, development, and analysis of geological and palaeontological datasets to ground-truth general circulation model simulations of Earth’s climate in the Ediacaran and Cambrian periods, with a particular emphasis on understanding potential feedbacks between global environment and macro-evolution. The opportunity to conduct overseas fieldwork and present outputs at international conferences are an integral part of the project.
About you
With a PhD in a relevant palaeoclimatological, palaeontological or geological discipline, you will have experience of working with palaeoclimate proxy data, and/or the use and development of global-scale numerical climate models. You will also have the willingness to work with palaeoclimate datasets in deep-time contexts.
Additional information
Informal enquiries are welcomed and can be directed to Professor Mark Williams at mri@leicester.ac.uk or Dr Thomas Harvey at thph2@le.ac.uk.
Applications for job share will be considered.
As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to professional development, this role will also be considered on a seconded basis for existing staff members. Please ensure this is discussed with your line manager prior to applying.
